London – Talking Azerbaijan at the Frontline Club
ESI's Gerald Knaus was invited to a panel discussion on Azerbaijan at the Frontline Club in London. He spoke about how Azerbaijan captured Europe's oldest human rights organisation, the Council of Europe, evaded its commitments, turned election monitoring into a political farce and silenced its critics.
Other speakers on the panel were Khadija Ismayilova, free-lancer for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Azerbaijani service, Baku, Azerbaijan, Vugar Gojayev, researcher and journalist, Baku, Azerbaijan, and Giorgi Gogia, Caucasus researcher at Human Rights Watch, Tbilisi, Georgia. Moderator: Rebecca Vincent, Azerbaijan Advocacy Assistant, Article 19.
At the event, there were also representatives from Index on Censorship, Human Rights House Foundation, and Open Society Foundations, that, among others, form the International Partnership Group for Azerbaijan.
