What is known about the extent of the current economic crisis in the new EU member states? What is its possible impact on integration already achieved in East Central Europe? And what narratives are needed in the face of this challenge? How can opinion leaders confront new mood swings in the face of real crises?

This is a time that requires clear thinking. For this reason, ERSTE Stiftung and ESI brought together a small circle of people working on the future of European integration.

Participants included Misha Glenny, author and writer, London, Heather Grabbe, Open Society Institute, Brussels, Gábor Hunya, WiiW, Vienna, Boris Marte, ERSTE Foundation, Alina Mungiu-Pippidi, SAR, Bucharest, Kalypso Nikolaïdis, member of the EU Reflection Group, Oxford, Ivo Prokopiev, Alpha finance holding, Sofia, Boris Vujčić, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Croatia, Gerald Knaus, ESI, and Kristof Bender, ESI, among others.
