Berlin – Human Rights in crisis meeting

ESI organised a small brainstormin in Berlin to discuss how to defend red lines on torture and political prisoners in Europe, two fundamental issues around which the modern human rights movement was formed, and which are a rising threat again in a growing number of European countries. We aimed to explore how democracies and human rights groups can achieve a greater impact in the face of mounting challenges to human rights institutions on the part of far-right movements and autocratic governments.

Among others, John Dalhuisen (Europe/Central Asia director of Amnesty International), Piotr Buras (head of the ECFR office in Warsaw) and Dessy Gavrilova (founding director of The Red House - Centre for Culture and Debate in Sofia) participated in the meeting.
