Football and socio-economic research in Armenia

Nigar Goksel from ESI's Istanbul office visited Yerevan for a week of preliminary research with ESI's local analyst Meri Yeranosyan on Armenia's socio-economic situation. Meri and Nigar met leaders of various NGOs, international organisations, independent analysts, entrepreneurs and experts in the field.

They also had a chance to watch the historic football match between Armenia and Turkey on 6 September in Yerevan: Nigar was the only Turk to observe the match outside the stadium and Meri the only Armenian to closely see how Turkish media were airing the match from the stadium.

On 9 September, Nigar spoke on "Prospects of Normalization of the Armenian-Turkish Relations" at a Conference in Yerevan. The event was organised by the Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation (ACGRC), USAID, and the Eurasia Partnership Foundation.

The ESI team also visited the town of Ashtarak and met some of its residents.
