On 3 July 2018 ESI's Kristof Bender was invited to a seminar about "The Netherlands and the EU Role in the Western Balkans: Improving Stability - At what Cost?" organised by the Clingendael Institute and the ECFR in The Hague. In a session titled "The Western Balkans Reform Agenda - What's at stake?" Kristof spoke about shortcomings of the current accession process and presented ideas how to make the process more effective and more credible.

While in The Hague, he also had meetings at the Dutch Foreign Ministry.
