Belgrade – ESI presents at workshop on the refugee crisis
ESI Senior Analyst Alexandra Stiglmayer presented at a workshop called "Beyond the Short-term Horizon: Addressing the Refugee and Migrant Crisis" on 10/11 March 2016 Belgrade, Serbia. She focused on the need of a comprehensive cooperation deal between the EU and Turkey to resolve the crisis. The ESI developed the blueprint for such an agreement already in September 2015. The main elements of ESI's proposal have been taken up by the EU and Turkey in an agreement in principle that they reached at a meeting in Brussels on 7 March.
The workshop brought together experts from the Western Balkans and the EU, and was organised by the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence BFPE) and the Munich-based Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft (SOEG - Southeast European Association).
A summary of Alexandra's and other presentations as well as the findings and the recommendations of the workshop can be found in the paper "Beyond the Short-term Horizon: Addressing the Refugee and Migrant Crisis".
