ESI moderates media conference in Sarajevo

ESI Senior Analyst Alexandra Stiglmayer moderated the conference "Independent Media in Bosnia and Herzegovina under Severe Pressure" in Sarajevo on 11 May 2010. The conference was organised by the Association of BiH Journalists in cooperation with the Dutch NGO Press Now, the BiH Communications Regulatory Agency, the BiH Press Council, the Media Centre Sarajevo and the Federation Ombudsman dealing with the media.

The conference aimed to draw attention to the deteriorating media situation in the country, which is characterised by increasing pressure on journalists and deceasing freedom of expression. The participants included Gary D. Robbins, the OSCE Ambassador in BiH; Lejla Dervisagic from the Human Rights and Media Division at the Council of Europe; Riny Bus, Deputy Head of the Dutch Embassy in Sarajevo; representatives of the organisers as well as many journalists.

Alexandra used to be a spokesperson and then head of the press department of the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia from 1998 to 2002.
