Potsdam – ESI on irregular migration and policy responses at the German Federal Police
1 February 2024
ESI's Gerald Knaus was invited to speak at the German Federal Police headquarters on irregular migration and ways to control it.
He compared asylum applications in Germany and Austria in 2023, focusing on the increase in asylum applications in Germany as opposed to Austria, the main countries of origin, and political measures implemented in response.
He highlighted the importance of lawful migration agreements with third countries to prevent inhumane treatment. Finally, he stressed that the strategic focus must be on reducing non-viable applications and improving cooperation with countries of origin and transit.
Gerald also met with the president of the German Federal Police, Dieter Romann.
