Berlin – ESI interview on Asylum Politics and the Greek refugee camps
16 April 2020
Audio: SWR1 Leute
In the interview ESI's Gerald Knaus called for a renewal of the EU-Turkey agreement in order to end the unacceptable conditions on the Greek islands. He also warns of a devastating humanitarian crisis on the islands. Furthermore, Gerald refers to the current COVID-19 threats to the refugees and migrants. A massive wave of infection in the overcrowded camps would be almost unstoppable. "If a coronavirus infection is added to this, in the midst of 20,000 people living closely together in the Lesvos camp, unable to wash their hands, with only six intensive care beds on the island, it is obvious why we must act.".
