The Hague – ESI gives keynote speech at the Clingendael State of the European Union Conference
ESI’s Gerald Knaus was invited to give the keynote speech at the State of the Union Conference on “War in Europe and its aftershocks” organised by the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael”.
Gerald focused on the war in Ukraine and how the EU needs to prepare itself for the arrival of more refugees in the coming winter and how bordering countries should not become overwhelmed in receiving them. A fair distribution across Europe through solidarity and organisation is needed so that they can integrate in the EU.
In addition, Gerald stressed the importance of offering the Four Freedoms to Ukraine and Moldova, but also to the Balkans through a renewed and credible accession process.
