Brussels – ESI debate with MEP Kati Piri on how to get to a humane asylum policy
10 March 2021
ESI’s Gerald Knaus was invited to a debate with Dutch MEP Kati Piri (Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament).
Gerald spoke about the dire situation of refugees on the Greek Islands, the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, and the responsibility that EU member states have. In addition, he explained why a renewed EU-Turkey statement is urgently needed to improve the humanitarian situation on the Greek Islands and how to address the unacceptable situation at the EU’s external borders such as in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Other discussants were humanitarian worker Rosa Duran and singer Laura Jansen (in Dutch language).
