ESI in Armenia: Seminar, research and conference

17 May 2008

Nigar Göksel and Gerald Knaus went to Armenia to work with local researchers who have been collecting material on the realities and trends of various districts of the country – namely Yerevan (with Meri Yeranosyan), Karahunj village in the south (with Anna Papyan and the rest of the team of the young think tank INSS), Ijevan in the north-east (with Grigor Choginyan) and Gyumri in the west (with representatives of the Urban Institute Foundation). The team worked jointly with ESI to finalize the first phase of the comprehensive research program.

Intense work was also conducted with ESI analyst Tigran Mkrtchyan in Armenia on generating a comprehensive overview of Turkey-Armenia relations. After the seminar, Nigar stayed on for a conference in Yerevan on 20 May and a trip to Karahunj with Anna Papyan. Nigar also spoke at a round table discussion organised by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Yerevan.
