ESI analyst positions in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia

The European Stability Initiative (ESI) is currently expanding its work to the South Caucasus. We are seeking to employ analysts in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to work under the supervision of the Istanbul and Berlin offices of ESI.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Caucasus Project Coordination Centre and the Berlin Headquarter of ESI to design and implement a research programme geared at raising the level of in-depth understanding in relevant European circles about the country and contributing to domestic debates about socio-economic dynamics
  • Conducting extensive field research and providing analysis on political economy, institutional development, governance assessment
  • Coordinating with local partners and conducting joint research and capacity-building with them
  • Developing a collection/archive of basic information about the economy, public administration and statistics, summarizing and analysing international reports (such as World Bank) and government programmes
  • Developing a database of contacts in the country
  • Communication and public relations; Dissemination of information about ESI and ESI's work in the country
  • Organising local events, travel and logistics for ESI seminars and visits
  • Carrying out administrative work as required
  • Providing regular updates to ESI staff about current affairs in the country
  • Making presentations of research in different countries
  • Supporting ESI in relevant fundraising initiatives
  • Monitoring of project budgets

Required skills/qualifications include:

  • A college degree and 3-5 years experience in media, government, NGO work or academia
  • Field experience in the Caucasus desirable
  • A strong understanding of the country and extensive contacts
  • Demonstrated commitment to international institutional work, with particular interest in and/or experience with issues pertinent to ESI's mission
  • Excellent organisational skills and the capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Capacity to take initiative, prioritise duties, and work independently while functioning as a member of a team
  • Ability to handle multiple, concurrent responsibilities
  • Oral and written fluency in English, native in local language, fluency in Russian also desirable
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills, ability to work with extensive amounts of material
  • Flexibility to take research trips in country as well as availability to travel abroad
  • High energy and creativity
  • Computer, Internet research and database skills
