Capacity building seminar in Baku

29 March 2008

ESI's Gerald Knaus, Nigar Göksel and  Arzu Geybullayeva held the second capacity building seminar in Baku within the framework of ESI's Caucasus Project.

The seminar took place at a hotel in the main downtown area of Baku. The participants of the seminar were three researchers - Yuliya Aliyeva, Fuad Chiragov, and Chinara Mirzoyeva - selected for joint research with ESI in Azerbaijan. The purpose of the seminar was to introduce local researchers to ESI's methodology by providing them with examples of previous research work in the Balkans and Turkey, as well as sample case studies and interviews.

The second half of the seminar was devoted to discussion on each of the proposed research topics: women in education, state policy against domestic violence - with a particular focus on laws and shelters, and the role of non-state actors in the formulation of the Law on Domestic Violence.
