Joachim Hütter (former staff)
Joachim Hütter (Germany) is a Senior Fellow of ESI. He was a member of the United Nations Secretariat for 25 years, dealing with political missions and peacekeeping operations. He retired in 2003 as head of the Division for Europe and Latin America in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, with responsibility for the executive direction and management of the peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Prevlaka, Georgia and Cyprus. Before that he led the Division for Asia and the Middle East (East Timor, south Lebanon, Golan Heights, Iraq-Kuwait, Kashmir and Tajikistan). From 1985 to 1990 he was political adviser to the operations in south Lebanon and Cyprus. Joachim Hütter worked as a political scientist at the University of Bonn from 1971 to 1978, concentrating on international politics, particularly security questions.
