Fikret Erkut Emcioglu is a Turkish-French binational lawyer, researcher, and lecturer in constitutional law. He is based in Istanbul and Berlin. Between 1997 and 2004, he worked as a journalist at Radio France Internationale's Turkish section in Paris. Upon his return to Istanbul in 2004, he joined ESI and researched for ESI’s first report on Turkey called “Islamic Calvinists”. In 2006, Erkut became director of international relations for the Turkish NGO, ARI Movement. Between 2007 and 2011, he served as legal adviser for the Istanbul- and Almaty-based OKAN Holding Inc, a Turkish company operating mainly in the construction and energy sectors. In May 2011, Erkut returned to ESI and researched civil-military relations and Christian minorities in Turkey. Between 2012 and 2014, he was the managing editor of Turkish Policy Quarterly (TPQ), a monthly international relations journal published in English. Since 2014, Erkut has been working at ESI with a special focus on the refugee crisis, irregular migration, rule of law, and Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean disputes.
