On 8 and 9 November 2021 ESI's deputy chairman Kristof Bender attended a migration workshop organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in St Julian's on Malta. Kristof spoke on a panel about "global trends and cooperation with countries outside of the European Union". Other participants of the workshop, held under Chatham House rules, included Nina Gregori, executive director of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), representatives of the Maltese, German and Slovak interior ministries, the Austrian foreign ministry, the OSCE, UNHCR and various other organisations.

Kristof also visited the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs of Malta for discussions on asylum policy.
