Ljubljana – ESI joins discussion on Serbia’s European future

Adnan Cerimagic, ESI’s senior analyst, participated in the seventh meeting of the Friends of the Western Balkans (FoWB) and the Willy Brandt Programme seminar. The two-day event, organised with the support of the European Parliament, focused on the student-led anti-corruption protests in Serbia and their implications for regional politics and EU enlargement.
In a panel titled “The Serbian student protests: regional impact and lessons learnt,” Adnan analysed the roots and trajectory of the protests and reflected on their broader significance. Together with regional experts and policymakers, he explored how the EU and its member states can support civic movements and democratic change in Serbia.
The event brought together members of the European Parliament, national MPs, civil society representatives and academics from across Europe and the Western Balkans. It concluded with a set of concrete proposals and a joint FoWB statement affirming support for democratic protests and regional cooperation.
