Bruchsal – ESI on effective migration policy at the district assembly of Baden-Württemberg
ESI’s Gerald Knaus was invited to speak at a panel on the “challenge of forced migration and integration” at the district assembly of Baden-Württemberg.
Gerald criticised Germany‘s reintroduced border controls, stating that they do not effectively reduce asylum applications or irregular migration. He emphasised the need for asylum agreements that can lower irregular arrivals to the EU and prevent deaths in the Mediterranean, similar to the initial success of the EU-Turkey statement. He stressed the urgency of renewing this statement and establishing additional safe third country agreements, such as the one ESI has proposed with Rwanda.
These agreements would create regulated migration policies, ensure humane border management, and uphold the EU’s commitment to the rule of law.
Gerald discussed with Marion Gentges, Minister of Justice and Migration for Baden-Württemberg and Achim Brötel, Vice President of the District Council of Baden-Württemberg. The event was opened by Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, Member of the Landtag.
On the same day, he met with judges at the German constitutional court in Karlsruhe to brief them on migration policy.
