Podgorica – ESI discusses Western Balkans with German diplomats

ESI’s senior analyst Adnan Ćerimagić participated online in a seminar organised by the German Foreign Office in Podgorica for deputy heads of mission in the Western Balkans, as well as diplomats responsible for the region and EU enlargement in Berlin and Brussels.
Adnan spoke in a session focused on the European Union’s response to the growing influence of third actors in the Western Balkans. He outlined the challenges and analysed how these actors engage with local political elites, media, and public opinion.
Drawing on ESI’s research, Adnan presented recommendations on how the EU can reinforce its credibility and presence in the region.
The event provided a platform for diplomats to exchange views on strategic competition in the Western Balkans and the future of the EU’s enlargement policy in an increasingly contested regional environment.
