Berlin – ESI discusses genocide remembrance in Bosnia

ESI senior analyst Adnan Ćerimagić participated in a public discussion titled “Kitchen Talk: Bosnian Media and the Genocide – 30 Years After”. The event was hosted by n-ost at its media hub and brought together journalists, researchers, and the public to reflect on media narratives around the 1995 Srebrenica genocide and their impact on reconciliation and remembrance in Bosnia.
Adnan addressed the continuing challenges in reporting on war crimes and genocide in Bosnia, particularly the denial and revisionism in public discourse. Drawing on ESI’s research into clichés about Bosnia, he emphasised that what followed after 1995 was a huge achievement – three decades of peace, the reintegration of the country, and the gradual restoration of its multi-ethnic character. While Bosnia and Herzegovina remains distant from its citizens’ aspirations for EU membership and higher living standards, it is not a failed state.
