8 June 2017
ESI's Gerald Knaus delivered a lecture at the NATO Defense College in Rome on the Western Balkans to an audience of 54 military officers and government officials from 19 NATO countries.
He provided an overview of the political, social, and economic issues and dynamics in the Western Balkans and talked about lessons from past interventions in the Balkans and associated risks.
While in Rome, Gerald had several meetings with senior government officials and NGO representatives to discuss EU asylum and border policy and what role Italy could play in pushing for a way forward.
