Adnan Ćerimagić, ESI senior analyst, led a block seminar at the DAAD Summer Seminar “Separatism or Autonomy? Secessionist Movements in Europe in Comparison”, held at the University of Passau from 4 to 8 May 2026.
The interdisciplinary seminar brought together students and researchers to examine separatist movements, autonomy debates, and questions of political identity across Europe and the post-Soviet space. The programme included workshops and lectures by experts in history, political science, and international relations.
On 6 May, Adnan led the seminar block “Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Search for a Political Nationalism”, focusing on the evolution of political identities and competing state concepts in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the end of the war. Through participant presentations and discussions, the seminar explored the relationship between nationalism, democratic governance, and European integration in the Western Balkans.
Adnan presented ESI’s analysis of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political development. He also discussed the role of the EU accession process in supporting democratic stability and institutional reform.
ESI continues to contribute to academic and policy discussions on democracy, statehood, and European integration in Southeast Europe.
